SKETCHBOOK: Yakutat Tlingit Elder George Ramos Senior from the Frog House of the Raven Clan: Traditional Ceremonial Regalia


George Ramos's traditional regalia as sketched by Kari Glass 25 April 1996 at Yakutat High School. Charismatic, animated story teller, cultural leader and Tlingit elder, George Ramos in the oral traditions captivated the listeners and shared the tales of his people and clan.

The ceremonial dress shirts were made with sea beaver commonly known as ermine pelts which were almost hunted to extinction by early European explorers who exploited the pelts for European royal regalia. The bird is probably the ravin tribe's talisman with the frog house insignia.
